To celebrate this years International Co-operatives Day we decided to have a Street Feast outside our shop in Kilmainham. The weekend also happened to be Tim Cookson, our longtime staff member’s, last weekend working at the Co-op so we wanted to celebrate his time here and send him off in style.

What started out as a very rainy Sunday afternoon soon brightened up as we set up and prepared for our potluck. We had some lovely marquees courtesy of our friends at Dublin Flea to keep the rain off.

At 2pm guests began to arrive with an array of delicious homemade vegetarian food – Jonas, one of our super volunteers, made a tasty dhal and staff member Maelle made some vegan gluten free choc chip cookies! Soon the tables were full of nutritious, healthy dishes all prepared with produce purchased in the shop.

When Tim arrived lots of his friends and colleagues old and new we here and ready to celebrate Tim and his contribution to the Co-op. As we have said before Tim’s contribution to the Co-op has been enormous, his commitment to our community is something very special and his colleagues and friends at the Co-op are sad to see him go.

As the day progressed the sun came out and the guests had some time to relax in the sun, lots of local residents dropped by to chat and meet our members. We wished Tim all the best on his new journey and  raised a champagne toast. As the street feast wrapped some of the guests headed on to the Patriot Inn to continue the celebration!

We were very lucky to have Photographer Giita Hammond capture the special day . Many thanks to Giita for the beautiful shots. Check out more of her work on her website here.

In advance of the Street Feast I chatted to Emma Ní Chearúil on the Bricfeasta Blasta on Raidió Na Life about the Co-op and our new space in Kilmainham.

Éist isteach anseo leis má tá tú iarradh me a chloisint a caint faoin gCo-op as Gaeilge (Iisten in here if you’d like to here me talk about the Co-op in Irish)

We have had two very successful street feasts this summer, it’s been a great way for our community to get together, chat and eat great food! we intend on organising another at the end of August so if you’d like to be involved in that please let us know at
