At a Special General meeting on Thursday 25th November, Co-op members approved a boycott of all Israeli produce by a majority of 50 votes to 6. The prohibition on Israeli goods will apply to the entire Co-op premises and therefore to producer members as well as Co-op core produce. » more
Members coming together for the recent Talkin' Co-op events have kick-started the Work Rota Monitoring Group (dubbed WoRMs).
Its brief, as laid down by a Co-op AGM, is to encourage member participation in the Co-op by identifying the work needed for its smooth operation that can be done by volunteer members, recruiting members to do that work and establishing a tracking process for work and volunteers.
The WoRMs group is full of enthusiasm and energy and is planning a stall on future Co-op Saturdays and an ongoing dialogue with members. Watch this space for more updates as the group gets moving...
Sunday 7th November saw the return of Independents' Day to the Co-op, a D.I.Y. fair of 'zines, records, comics and info stalls with workshops, screenings, performances and exhibitions. » more
The launch of the Peas and Pods Family Market brought a fresh and exciting market to the Co-op venue with clothing and toys, homewares and accessories on Sunday 3rd October, followed by a Halloween Market on Sunday 24th October.
Dublin Food Co-op lined up four events on Saturday 18th September as part of our National Organic Week celebrations.
We announced the return of refills to our shelves - 1 litre refilled bottles of Bio-D washing-up liquid - priced €2 - with big thanks to Bjarn who had fixed our pump! Shoppers were requested to drop rinsed out 1 litre bottles into our collecting area beside our household products and the Co-op would do the rest.
Over time, we hope to introduce similar refills for other popular household products.
Since its late June opening, the new sales space for our wholefood and household produce had been getting rave reviews as a better place to shop in every sense. We added more photos to our feature.
The Co-op launched a Twitter feed and began gathering followers to receive the latest news and product deals.

With dublincitycycling.ie consulting on the location of extra bike racks around the city, members were urged to add their vote to get racks near the Co-op by visiting the website and clicking "Newmarket, outside the Co-op" on the list below the map.

As the project to construct a new area for dry goods in the Co-op was entering its final stages, a call was made for volunteers with appropriate skills and experience to give some time toward the final push. In the spirit of the co-operative movement, the goal was for members contribute as much skills, time, experience and sweat to the efforts as possible, helping keep costs down.

We welcomed the incoming Co-ordinating Body - and especially its five new members - and thanked those that stood down for their contributions.
Dublin Food Co-op marked Fairtrade Fortnight with a number of events and used the opportunity to give added profile to our extensive range of fairtrade produce, whose sales raise the income of producers in the developing world.
On Saturday 27th February, we were delighted to welcome Hella Alikuru and Oscar González to speak about their experience of the positive impact of Fair Trade in the developing world. Hella's talk focused on her experience as Fair Trade International Regional Coordinator for East Africa, a role she combines with representing the International Union of Food and Agricultural Workers. Oscar discussed the benefits that fair trade certification brings to his coffee co-operative in Matagalpa, Nicaragua, for which he acts as Communications Director.
Co-op members raised €1,077 on Saturday 16th January in solidarity with those impacted by the earthquake in Haiti. It was a wonderful response and we thank everyone for their contributions.
The money was donated to Médecins Sans Frontierès who had around 800 staff quickly on the ground in the aftermath of the disaster.
