The Co-op's Annual General Meeting (AGM), which began on the evening of Saturday 9th April, will resume at 7.30pm on Thu 14th April. (Please note that trading will cease at 7pm to facilitate the meeting).
On Sunday 10th April, Dublin Food Co-op hosted 'Gathering Momentum', an all Ireland event to renew the campaign against Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) on the island attended by more than 70 people.
Dublin Food Co-op has a long and proud commitment to opposing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and we prominently proclaim our space as a 'GMO-Free Zone' at our entrance. GMOs represent a growing threat to our food chain, all the more since Ireland's previous stance on GMOs at EU level was quietly reversed by outgoing Agricultiure Minister Brendan Smith. Globally, the proliferation of GMOs has been dramatic. In the US, GM soy, cotton and rapeseed/canola oil all make up over 90% of total production, while corn/maize accounts for 86%.

Co-op gets behind Fairtrade FortnightA range of events and promotions were held for the Co-op's celebration of Fairtrade Fortnight, which ran from Monday 28th February to Sunday 13th March.
On 5th March, we welcomed a speaker from the Manos Campesinas co-operative in Guatemala, a Fairtrade organic coffee supplier that brings together over 1,200 small farmers.
Dublin Food Co-op has recently extended our fairtrade range and we took the opportunity to showcase some of the products on offer. Throughout the fortnight, we also ran a raffle with a chance to win a fantastic hamper of fairtrade produce. The prize has now been claimed by the winning ticketholder. Our thanks to everyone who took part.
Regular Grow It Yourself Ireland meetings will now take place at the Co-op on the second Saturday of every month, from 12 noon to 1.30, beginning on Saturday 12th February. The new Dublin city centre group follows a packed launch event with GIY founder Michael Kelly in January.
